After a par 4 opener, Meaztegi hole 2 brings the first par 5 on the course. And Seve didn’t make it easy: up to 459 metres, two fairway bunkers, one on each side, and a 31-metre green surrounded by three more. We continue our hole-by-hole series around the course Severiano Ballesteros drew in Bizkaia.
A par 5 with handicap 5/5
The scorecard puts it like this: par 5, handicap 5/5 and four tees. Each one leaves you a different distance to the green:

- Tee 62: 459 metres
- Tee 60: 455 metres
- Tee 56: 444 metres
- Tee 52: 408 metres
Four tee markers, four different holes. Choose the one that suits your game before you step onto the tee at Meaztegi hole 2.
Two fairway bunkers between 200 and 238 metres
The first test comes with the drive. Measured from the 62 markers, two bunkers lie in wait between 200 and 238 metres, one on each side of the fairway. There’s no safe side to bail out to: the tee shot has to stay in the middle or stop short of the sand.
At Meaztegi hole 2, before you pull out the driver, think about how far your ball carries and where you want it to stop. With a par 5 ahead, a tee shot on the fairway is worth more than a few extra metres.
A 31-metre green guarded by three bunkers
At the end of Meaztegi hole 2 waits a green 31 metres long with three bunkers around it. It’s a generous target, but with sand close by: the last shot into the green is also a choice, not an improvisation.

A green this long plays very differently depending on where the flag is. Check it before you choose your club.
The first par 5 Seve signed
If hole 1 asked for precision from the tee, Meaztegi hole 2 adds distance. It’s the first time in the round that the course gives you three shots to reach the green, and also the first time you have to manage them well. Birdie, par or better not to ask? Tell us after you’ve played it. The next stop is hole 3.
