La Arboleda (Bizkaia), June 3. The 5th Bizkaia PGAe Open golf tournament, counting towards the 3rd TUMI Spain Golf Tour and to be held from June 19 to 21, was officially presented today at the Meaztegi public course in La Arboleda.

The presentation event was attended by Carlos Alzaga, Provincial Council Member for Infrastructure and Territorial Development; Ander Martínez, president of PGAe; Javier Saiz, president of the Federación Vasca de Golf; Isabel Lafita, communications officer of the DalecandELA Foundation; and Carlos Roca, managing director of Meaztegi Golf.
This tournament, launched in 2022, has been promoted from its inception by the Diputación Foral de Bizkaia and the Spanish Association of Golf Professionals (PGAe) and, despite its youth, is considered the major of the national circuit due to the high level of participants, its prize money and an organization that year after year goes the extra mile to support and accompany the professionals taking part.
More than 140 professionals registered
More than one hundred golfers have already formalized their entry for this 5th Bizkaia PGAe Open and the final figure is expected to exceed 140.
Among those registered, the presence of José María Olazábal once again stands out — winner of two Masters at Augusta, 23 European Tour titles, 4 PGA Tour titles and 4 Ryder Cups, a tournament in which he has also captained the European team.
The participation of other European Tour winners such as Álvaro Quirós, Santiago Luna, José Manuel Lara and Carlos José Suneson is also worth highlighting.
Other important players who will be at Meaztegi include Carlos Balmaseda, Luis Claverie, Xavier Guzmán and José Manuel Ruiz.
Confirmed Basque players
Among the Basque golfers who have confirmed their participation are, among many others, Jesús María Arruti (winner of numerous PGA championships and other national circuit tournaments), Javier Sáinz (Spanish professional champion in 2024 and runner-up after a play-off in 2025) and Borja Martín (winner of the Bizkaia PGAe Open in 2023).
Charity Pro-Am and children’s Pro-Am
In addition to the professional tournament, the 5th Bizkaia PGAe Open includes other notable activities such as a Pro-Am Tournament, one of the great attractions of the week, with professional and amateur players sharing a team and enjoying a day of sport and camaraderie, without forgetting the charitable purpose that accompanies this festive competition. Once again this year, the funds raised during this Pro-Am tournament will go to the DalecandELA Foundation, an association that supports ALS patients and research into this disease.
In addition, on Sunday the 21st, coinciding with the final day of the competition, a new edition of the children’s Pro-Am will be held, organized in collaboration with the Jon Rahm 4 Kids foundation, with the participation of all the golf schools of the Basque Country, as well as teams from Cantabria and Castilla-León and, as a new feature this year, boys and girls from two French golf schools will also take part.
